Aliya meets Santa

We took Aliya to meet Santa tonight. He came to visit the library by our place. She was not too impressed. She looked at him and started to cry. I don't know what the deal is with Santa but he has that effect on babies. She liked the book the elf gave her. She teethed on it all night. We went to dinner at the Red Mesa after we left Santa. Uncle Pinky and Aunt Terri gave us a gift certificate for our graduation to the Red Mesa. Rob ordered a Fillet Medallions with fried yucca and plantains in a chimichuri sauce. I never ever ever thought I'd like plantains with a garlic and lime flavored sauce drizzled over top but it was so delicious. The acidic flavor really brought out the sweetness of the plantains. It was such a yummy dinner. We had plantains foster for desert and fried ice cream. The plantains foster was so creamy and smooth with caramel infused over the dish. I highly recommend it but the fried ice cream was a bust. I really love fried ice cream because it holds such good memories for me. When I was a kid my parents used to take me to ChiChis on special occasions and would order a fried ice cream for me. It was so special and wonderful. I never really saw fried ice cream served anywhere after that until years later when Los Mocajetes in Deland had it. We ate there ALL the time and ordered it often. Adam was still little then and we used to have spoon fights while eating it. We would steal the ice cream off each others spoons and fight for it. I was reminiscing about it over dessert. Rob was reminiscing about a house that he used to visit every Christmas with his dad. It was decorated with dolls you could walk through the house and look into every room. He said it was done so well and looked so magical. We both used to drive around with our parents to look at Christmas lights when we were kids. I hope when Aliya grows up she has as many good memories about her childhood as we have about ours.
